Staples: Get $3 for each Ink Cartridge you Recycle

Did you know that Staples has an ink cartridge recycling program? Well, if you didn't, now you know. It works like this:
  • Turn in your used ink cartridges at a Staples store (some restrictions apply)
  • Receive a $3 coupon for each one.
  • You can apply up to 3 of these coupons on your next purchase, netting you a potential $9 discount. That itself may pay for the full cost of a replacement cartridge.
  • You can also key in the coupon codes for purchases at Staples.com

Staples.com is a Spree.com merchant. When you purchase through Spree.com you receive 2% cash back. To sign up, simply click here. I have not tried combining the use of coupons and Spree.com. Post a comment and let me know if these purchases qualify and accrue cash back.

A few days ago I received an order from JCPenney. In the package, there was an ad with a Free Shipping coupon code for Women's Intimate Apparel Orders of $49 or more from their online site. It states the following:

Just log on, make your selections, check "yes" under "discounts" then enter BBROBE7 in the "promotional code" box during checkout.

Discounts for this year's Holiday Season

Wow, it's almost November and soon we'll all start (if we haven't already) our big shopping season for the Holidays. In past years, those of us who have not been proactive enough, might have missed out on serious discounts.

I have decided to try to shop a bit smarter this year, and that means take a little time to research and to comparison-shop. Maybe I will not be getting a bunch of big ticket items this year. You might be able to afford them more than I could or you might have already been saving for a couple of those. Whatever your situation, I urge you to do the following:
  • Start deciding what your big (and small) purchases will be.
  • Use Price Grabber to create a list and set up Price Alerts there. Not only can you compare prices there but you can have the system notify you when a product in your shopping list falls below a price where it would become a more attractive purchase for you.
  • Price Grabber may not always give you the lowest price online, some research of your own will be needed.
  • Set up an account on Spree.com. The savings do not need to end after you find the lowest price. In fact there's all sorts of agreements between merchants to pass a commission to their advertisers. Spree.com passes a portion of the commission to the buyers themselves!
  • When you are ready to make a purchase look at the merchants on Spree.com they have dozens of well known, reputable merchants and if you've made up your mind about buying from one of them AVOID going to the merchant's site directly, instead do so through your account at Spree.com. They will save you (via cashback check after a few weeks) anywhere from 1% to 25% depending on the merchant you chose. The discounts are clearly stated on their site.

I have used Spree.com for over a year. What is in it for me? Well, full disclosure here. Spree.com also offers a referral program of which I am taking advantage. Once you have an account with them, you can also take advantage of their "friend referral" program. Find out more on their site in the "Member Benefits" section by clicking on the "refer your friends" link on the side. Then take a look at the "Cashback guide" it explains how the commision breaks down. To sign up, simply click here.

Get Up to 25% Cash Back on Online Purchases (Spree.com)

People turn to online shopping for a variety of reasons, they find it convenient that the products that they purchase are delivered to their home or office door and they can avoid the trip to the store.

The amount of research that can be done online for a product is significantly higher than what we would be able to do by getting in our cars and driving around town hoping that their trusty sales associates will truly have our best interest at heart and recommend the right product or the best product and with honesty, tell us that they do not carry what we really need or want and that their competitor has it for cheap.

Many online shoppers think that finding the best online retailer that has their needed product for the best price is the end of their shopping quest and in many ways it is, however Internet retailers spend, sometimes considerable amounts of money, in advertising costs for TV, radio and print campaigns and they pay commissions to other web sites to send them traffic and customers in what is usually known as affiliate programs.

Since creating new customers is much more difficult and expensive for merchants than generating new purchases from an established customer base, they have devised a loyalty program where part of the commission costs that would normally fully go to the third party sites are paid as cash back to the actual customers.

As a customer, you receive a check once your commission from all your purchases from this consortium of merchants reach $25 dollars. The percentage cash back that is paid to the purchases varies from retailer to retailer and range from 1% to up to 25% of the purchase.

Online shopping makes sense for many of our purchases, but there are things where online shopping does not make sense even though retailers are constantly finding easier and more convenient ways for us to purchase.

Grocery store purchases, restaurant visits, movie tickets, entertainment, theme park passes, cultural and museum visits, even hotel stays, dry cleaning services and your morning coffee are not things that you would buy online. Many of these are things that you pay for regularly even on a daily or weekly basis.
